Kent Championships 2007


Oliver Bray – DOUBLE County Champion

The first galas of the Kent Swimming championships took place last weekend at Black Lion Pool and a number of Hythe swimmers were taking part including; Oliver Bray, Alasdair Seamer, Ben Walker, Jenny Newman, Richard Gamble, Joshua Hill.

Oliver Bray the Hythe Aqua Club Captain showed the way and was the first Hythe County Champion of 2007. Oliver won the 15yrs Age Group 50m Breaststroke recording a new personal best of 32.67 secs, He also won the junior title in the same event and was placed just outside the medals in the senior open event.

Alasdair Seamer won bronze in the 16yrs age group in a new personal best time of 33.79 secs and was placed just outside the junior medals in 7th place. Ben Walker had an excellent start to the County Championships taking 8th place in the 11yrs 200m Breaststroke in a new pb time of 3.24.68 and taking 6th place in the 11yrs 50m Breaststroke event, once again in a new personal best time of 43.17 secs.

Jenny Newman took a bronze medal in the 200m Breaststroke, swimming just outside her personal best. Richard Gamble swam in both the 100m Butterfly and 50m Freestyle events and was placed 9th in the 15yrs age group in the 100m butterfly and was placed 7th just missing a medal in the 15yrs 50m Freestyle. Joshua Hill swam in the 50m Breaststroke recording a new personal best of 40.35 and just missing out on a medal in 7th place.

Next stop was the relays at Crystal Palace, with Robyn Wakelyn being taken ill it was decided to withdraw some of the girls teams. However, all the teams swam well recording many new split PB’s and with the Boys 15/16yrs and Junior Teams making finals:
15/16yrs Junior Team was placed 5th in both Free and Medley Relays (Alistair, Oliver, Richard & Jacob)

Junior Boys Team was placed 7th in both Free and Medley Relays (Alistair, Oliver, Richard & Jacob) all recorded new split PB’s in their heats and finals.

Girls 13/14yrs Team of Sian, Daisy, Shakira & Hayley all swam well with Hayley getting a new PB in the freestyle leg of the medley relay.

Boys 12yrs & Under Team also swam well (Ben, Barnabus, Jamie, & Dan) in both relays with Ben recording a PB in the freestyle

Girls 12yrs & Under Team ( Zara, Melissa, Hannah & Sophie) all reecorded new PB’s in one or more strokes.

The final galas of the Kent Championships took place at Tunbridge Wells and Black Lion Pools:
Ben Walker 6th place in the 11yrs 50m Breaststroke, 8th in the 100m Breaststroke in new personal best times.
Daniel Burch16th in the 11yrs 50m Butterfly in anew personal best time
Oliver Bray Silver Medal in the 15yrs 100m Breaststroke, Bronze Medal in the 16yrs & Under 100m Breaststroke,
Alasdair Seamer 4th place in the 16yrs Age Group 100m Breaststroke, 9th place in the 16yrs & Under 100m Breaststroke and a new PB.
Richard Gamble 7th 15yrs 100m Freestyle

Sophie Newington 17th 11yrs Age Group 50m Freestyle in a new personal best time
Zara Brazier Silver Medal in the 50m Backstroke in anew personal best time, 6th place in the 11yrs 50m Butterfly in a new personal best time, 4th place in the 200m Backstroke in a new PB time.
Jenny Newman Silver Medal in the 16yrs 50m Breaststroke, 4th place in the 16yrs & Under 50m Breaststroke, 4th place in the Open 50m Breaststroke in a new PB time, 7th place in the 16yrs 100m Freestyle, 4th place in the 100m Breaststroke, and 10th in the 16yrs 200m IM.

Well Done to all the swimmers that took part in the 2007 County Championships and thank you to all the Coaches and Helpers that acted as Team Managers at the various galas.
