Under 16 Waterpolo Team

Watford V Hythe (10 – 2)
As with the Under 12 team the 1st match was a massive shock to most of the team, out of the water it was the visual appearance of the other teams and in the water it was the physical strength and experience.  Matt and Bradley led from the front and battled for every ball this helped spur the team on.  After the half time team talk a different team went out fighting, advice and the strength shown by Matt and Bradley in the first half gave the younger players hope, the players began to mark Watford more closely and chase harder when they attacked, this won the team ball and kept possession enable Matt and Bradley to score one each with shots missed or saved from Josh, Dan and Eddie.  All players in the team gained valuable match experience holding Watford to just 10 – 2 a great first match achievement.

Beckenham V Hythe (4 – 2)
This match was a closer fought encounter, after some positive advice from Matt and Bradley coupled with the realisation that closer marking of attacking players was needed.  With a more determined attitude and the experience of the last game Hythe battled for every ball holding Beckenham off and allowing for our swimmers to mount counter attacks.  All players played with heart and belief, they all came away from the game on high spirits.

W L Penguins V Hythe (9 – 4)
Hythe started this match well and continued where they had finished the last game battling for every loose ball and attacking hard, as the game continued fatigue started show it self, the more experienced started to tire, unable to keep the pressure on in defence.  The larger more experienced opponents began to find space and opened up the score a bit.  Hythe still battled and never gave in to the intense pressure of the Penguins, although it was another loss it was respectable.

Sutton & Cheam V Hythe (13 – 4)
With all of our players tiring this game was going to be a real test of character for our younger players, Sutton & Cheam were all large young men with a reputation that preceded them.  This was always going to be the hardest test for our young team.  With frequent substitutions to try and give players as much rest as possible and strong opposition will still managed to score 4 goals against S & C but their strength and experience forced Hythe backwards and had to suffer an onslaught that amounted to a 13 – 4 defeat.

Hythe gave a great account of themselves and gained invaluable experience for the fourth coming Sunday tournaments.
