Hythe Aqua mens waterpolo team follow in the footsteps of last year as they claim victory over Beckenham in the first match of the Kent League Championship 2009.
Hythe Aqua knowing they took 3 out of 4 points from the two fixtures played last season were not intimidated and absorbed the early pressure on their shallow end goal from the enthusiastic Beckenham. The strong defences by both sides had the better of the first two quarters but Beckenham edged it at the half way point, 4 goals to 3.
The game was effectively closed out in the third quarter after Hythe scored four unanswered goals of a quality that deserved to win any game. Hythe’s former GB player, Callum Bailey found the space to put away two unstoppable outside shots which the Beckenham goalkeeper Ben Alcorn could only watch as they thundered into the corner of the net. Not to be outdone, Oliver Bray, himself a junior GB international who has just returned from international tournament in Portugal bagged two further goals which left Beckenham trailing 7 goals to 4. |

Hythe closed out the game in the fourth period taking the points from a disappointed Beckenham by 9 goals to 7 which sets up the season nicely for the return leg at Beckenham in September.
