Two senior swimmers from Hythe Aqua synchronised swimming section competed at the Warwickshire and Staffordshire Invitation synchro competition on the 3rd July.
Competing against big teams from the City of Birmingham, Rugby, Walsall, Rykneld, Witney and Nairn, Hannah Bacon and Katie Major completed the figure section of the competition. They received some high scores to be placed 8th and 9th respectively. This was the girl’s first ever competition where there qualification to be allowed to perform their duet was based on their combined individual figure scores, so the pressure was high. After an unbearable wait, the Aqua pair were delighted to discover that their combined figure scores were high enough to qualify them to perform in the Duet Routine competition
The duet, which was choreographed and coached by senior Hythe swimmer Erica Moo, was performed brilliantly by Hannah and Katie, with excellent timing throughout and big smiles. The competition amongst the Duets was extremely close with the duo narrowly missing 3rd place by just 0.02 of a point and with the difference between 1st place and 4th just 1.07 points. Both girls will now be working hard with their coach to improve on the technical side of the duet ready for the Kent championships in November.
