South East Region Age Group Championships 2007

Ben Walker

Ben Walker was the sole representative at the 2007 S E Region Age Group Championships, which were held at the fantastic new Crawley pool in early June. Unfortunately, no swimmers with consideration times were allowed to take part and so were excluded from the championships, and therefore some Hythe swimmers lost the opportunity to swim in the championships this year.

Ben swam in both the 200m and 100m, 11yrs Breaststroke events. He was placed 25th in both events. He was 4th placed Kent swimmer in the 100m event with less than 3 seconds separating the last 12 places. In the 200m Breaststroke he improved his placing and was the 3rd placed Kent swimmer. If Ben had been able to swim close to his PB standard, his placings would have improved enormously to 14th in the 100m Breast (possibly with the fastest Kent time and 16th place in the 200m event and possibly 2nd fastest Kent swimmer.

However, you cannot under-estimate the difficulty associated with being the only swimmer from a club on poolside at a major event. However, with practice Ben will increase his confidence and will achieve his best times at these events.
