The annual South East Region Masters Short Course Championships were held in Guildford recently with top Masters swimmers travelling from as far away as East Anglia, the Isle of Wight & Gloucester to compete at the championships.
Gill Prince and David Staveley proudly represented Hythe Aqua’s master section at the championships with gold medals all round in their age groups. Gill cruised to victory in the 100 metre Breaststroke event, beating the opposition comfortably. In her second race Prince was just touched into second place after a thrilling finish in the 50 metre Breaststroke. Frustratingly there was only 4 hundredths of a second between Gill and the winner but she had to be content with the silver medal position.
David kept his unbeaten record in the 100 metre Individual medley retaining his title as champion. He also came first in the 100 metres freestyle, second in the 100 metre Backstroke, and collected Bronze medals in the 50 metre Backstroke & Butterfly events.
Staveley and Prince are half of the quartet of swimmers from Hythe Aqua masters who have been selected to represent Kent at the Inter-County championships next month and so their results at the South East Region should stand them in a good position for this competition. |
