Hythe Aqua masters turned up in force to compete at the team’s most important competition of the year, the annual Kent Masters swimming championships. Twenty-one Kent swimming clubs battled against each other at Black Lion Leisure centre in Gillingham with the hope of being crowned Kent Champions. After months of intensive training sessions at Hythe Pool, Hythe masters felt in good form. There were hundreds of competitors at the event ranging from 18 year olds to 79 year olds and with such a diverse age range it’s not hard to see why Masters swimming is fastly becoming one of the most popular swimming disciplines. Hythe ladies were on top form and scooped thirteen 1st places, with Debbie Burton being the star of the show bagging a massive 21 points, winning the 100m butterfly and gaining 3 silvers. Gill Prince also swam well gaining 20 points for Hythe and showing her talent for all four strokes by winning 1st place in the 100m Individual Medley. In the men’s, Paul Hancock and David Evans were the top point scorers for Hythe, with Hancock dominating the butterfly winning both the 50m and 100m butterfly and Evans highlight being a personal best and silver medal in 100m butterfly!
Tim Wiseman, Hythe masters coach said “Hythe masters swam really well, it was a great team effort despite injuries and illness on the day we narrowly missed top club by only 9 points coming 2nd overall!”
