Mini Water Polo Initiative at Hythe Aqua
Many pupils from several Hythe Primary Schools are under training for a mini version of the Olympic sport – Water Polo, organised by Hythe Aqua swimming club. The children jumped at the chance to experience this very exciting sport thanks to a grant from Kent County Councils Community Grant initiative.
The young players have been developing skills to control the ball one-handed, as well as swimming techniques adjusted to allow for good movement, whilst enjoying all round vision. Hythe Aqua Water Polo Coach, Martin Burke, commented;
“The players turn up every week without fail and are clearly enjoying the experience, which is evident by the standard they have reached over a short period of time. Some players have indicated that they will continue training with Hythe’s Junior Water Polo squad after the scheme ends.
The success of the course will be tested in a competitive game between Hythe Aqua juniors and the schools select team on the final evening session on 25 March 2007”.
It is hoped that many of the youngsters will join the club and develop their swimming skills in the clubs highly rated learn to swim scheme and become members of the large junior water polo section at Hythe Aqua.
