n the 9/10yrs age group Abbey West was champion in all the girls strokes, with Maddie Shepherd, Eliza Cloake and Amanda Cufley taking the other medal positions. Max Hulbert and Luke Archer shared the gold positions with Max taking the freestyle gold, whilst Luke took gold in the Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly and IM.
In the 11/12 yrs age group Jodie Cowie won the 100m Breaststroke and 200m IM, whilst Grace Walker won 100m Breaststroke, Butterfly and Freestyle. James Hulbert took the trophies in the 100m Backstroke and Breaststroke.
In the 13/14 years age group the honours were shared with Shanelle Fakley winning gold in the 100m Breaststroke, Margaux Durand taking gold in the Butterfly, Freestyle and 200m IM and Sophie Newington being champion in the 100m Backstroke. Daniel Burch swept the board in the boys events and was champion in all strokes
The 15/16 years saw Elizabeth Burridge winning 100m Breaststroke and 200m IM and Hayley Newman becoming champion in the 100m Backstroke, and Freestyle, with Daisy Somerville taking the Butterfly gold medal. Joshua Hill had a clean sweep in the boys events winning all strokes.
In the Open age group Jenny Newman retained her position from previous years winning Breaststroke, Butterfly and Freestyle, with Robyn Wakelin taking the Backstroke crown. Oliver Bray won the boys open events with a spectacular swim in the 100m Breaststroke where he broke a long standing club record with a new time of 1m.07.04s.
The Sea Swim Championships this year took place in rough conditions off the beach at Hythe, with the following swimmers taking the swim swim gold medals; 12yrs and Under Jessica Saunders, James Hulbert/Robert Gunn (joint), 13/14yrs Sophie Newington and Daniel Burch/Ben Gunn (joint), 15yrs + Lilly McLaughlin and Josh Hill.
The synchronised swimming awards went to; Endeavour Awards - Olivia Morcom and Katie Major, Contribution to the Club went to long serving synchro coach and official Sue Goodson, Attendance Award to Hanah Bacon who also won the swimmer of the year award, with Performance of the Year award going to Jodie Cowie.
The Masters ladies champions at Hythe were; Maurenn Fakley, Pat Ling, Diana Burke, Pat Parris, Debbie Burton, Ginny Fell, Inguna Reinhards. The male champions were; Ernie Butler, David Staveley, Chris Fakley, David Evans, David Poore, Phillip Moo, Paddy Porter, Colin willis, Adrian Davies, Chris Gadenne, Pete Saunders, Simon Stephenson, and Scott Holder . The East Invicta Swimmign Association Masters Secretary also presented the East Kent Masters Trophy to Hythe Aqua as 2009 champions.
The water polo endeavour award winners were Thomas Burton, Lewis Kennedy, Freya Coughlin and Grace Walker.

The highest points scorer at the Kent County Swimming Championships was Grace Walker.
The highest points scorer at the East Kent Swimming Championships was Holly Campbell, with James Hulbert taking the Orchard Glen Trophy. The senior squad swimmer of the year was Joshua Hill with the Junior Squad swimmers of the year being Natalie Wyborn and Luke Archer.
Junior Squad endeavour awards were presented to Francesca Rogers, John West, Sophie Tyrell, Abraham Brown and Isabel Adams. A number of swimmers from the very successful Hythe Aqua Learn to Swim Programme were also recognised with Endeavour Awards Sadie Cole, Olivia Boutwood, William Cavanagh, Isobel Stafford and Holly Baker.
Long Standing Club Treasurer, Learn to Swim Teacher and Masters swimmer Diana Burke was also recognised with the presentation of Life Membership for services to the club.
Grace Walker, Oliver Bray and Holly Campbell were presented with club recorded certificates where they had smashed eight club records between them during 2009.
Lastly, a special bravery award was made to Megan Rhys Challis who could not attend the event as she was undergoing major surgery in a London Hospital. The whole club wished Megan a speedy recovery. The awards event was followed by a family disco and other activities |
