The second round of Kent Junior League saw Hythe Aqua swimmers raise their game to gain victory over their rivals in convincing style. Having come a close 3rd in the first round in June the team were determined to go one higher in this gala and pushed themselves to the limit resulting in over 20 PBs and over eleven 1st and fifteen 2nd places.
After 10 events Hythe Aqua were joint 1st place with Margate SC. However by event 22, after a golden spell of consistent 1st and 2nd places Hythe increased their lead to over 12 points and never looked back. The hard work and extra training by many of the swimmers over the summer holidays had obviously paid off as Hythe produced some of their finest swimming for a long time.
Special mention must go to the 10yrs age group who won most of their races. Tommy Evans powered to victory in the 50m Breast and 25m Fly whilst Grace Walker won the 50 Back and Free with Gemma Archer winning the 25m Fly. The girls (Grace, Gemma, Ellie Burch and Natalie Wyborn) cruised to victory in both the Medley and Freestyle relays. 2nds were gained by Ellie Burch 50m Breast and Charles Watson 50m Free.
Other winners were Fola Ogunsola 11yrs Free who also got 2nd in the 50m fly and 3rd in the 12yrs 100m Fly, Sophie Newington 12yr 100m Breast and the 11yrs Medley relay team of Fola, James Hulbert, James Litchfield and Henry Baxter.
It was the depth of second places that helped to secure our overall victory and these were gained by:
13yrs- Charlie Smisson 100m Fly and Free, Shanelle Fakley 100m Breast, Margo Durand 100m Free, Zara Brazier and Ben Walker 100m Back, Boys medley team of Charlie, Ben, Ben Gunn and Jamie Porter.
12yrs- Sam Hindness 100m Breast and the Girls Free Relay of Sophie, Beth Warren, Evie Burton and Melissa Fell.
11Yrs- Jodie Cowie 50m Fly, James Hulbert 50m Breast and the Girls Free Relay of Jodie, Freya Coughlan, Jessica Saunders and Christina Freeman. The highlight of the night was the mixed 8x25m Free Squadron where we came a close second( Grace Walker, Tommy Evans, Jodie Cowie, Fola Ogunsola, Sophie Newington, James Bray, Zara Brazier , Charlie Smisson). Other supporting swimmers were John West, Joshua Tyrrell , Luke Riley, Jacob Burden and Katie Levitt
It must be stressed that this was an overall team effort and and all of the squad up stepped to the mark to give their best performance to date with all contributing to the fantastic team support by cheering their friends on to victory. The team managers, poolside staff and parents were all very proud of the effort and results Hythe Aqua produced. An excellent nights swimming by everyone.
