Another excellent year for Hythe Aqua at the 2009 Kent Swimming Championships. Folarin Ogunsola came away with an impressive set of results leaving his best to last with a spectacular swim in the 11yrs 50m Butterfly where he powered to 3rd place. He also gained two 5th places in the 11yrs 50m back and 50m Free with a scorching swim of 31.29. He was also in the top 15 for the 100IM
Grace Walker impressed in the 10yrs age group achieving a hard earned 4th in the 100 IM and two 6ths in the 200mFree and 50m back. She came a creditable 9th and 10th in the 50m Fly and Free.
Other notable performances from Juniors were Tommy Evans: 8th in 10yrs 50m Breast, Ellie Burch: 8th in 10yrs 200m Breast with over a 9sec PB and Jodie Cowie 8th in the 11yrs 50m Fly.
In the teenage section of the club we also had some good results and some excellent PBs. Zara Brazier was 8th in the 13yrs 50m Back and 16th in the 100m. Daniel Burch swam a PB to clinch 10th in the 13yrs 100m back and Charlie Smissen powered to a PB of 30.08 in the 13yrs 50m Free. Josh Hill continued to improve his times with PBs in both his 14yrs 50m Breast (8th) and 100mBreast (11th) against stiff opposition.
The senior of Hythe were not to be outdone with Oliver Bray making the final of the 17/18yrs 100m Breaststroke where he came 5th whilst Alisdair Seamer was 8th. Alisdair also came a pleasing 5th in the 17/18yrs 50m Breaststroke. Jenny Newman was a creditable 7th in the 17/18 100m Fly whilst Robyn Wakelin achieved 5th in the 17/18 200m Back and 8th in the 50m Back.
Our relay teams found the going tough but all gave good performances. In the 12yrs and under age groups all teams had 10yrs olds in them so next year it should be easier. This was also the case in the 13/14yrs age group were all the boys teams were 13 and most of the girls team.
Overall it was a successful year for Hythe Swimmers at the Kents and it will be nice to see more of the squads next year getting the necessary Kent County entry times and earning the right to wear a silver hat. |
