Hythe Aqua Swimmer Breaks East Kent Record

It was another successful weekend for Hythe Aqua swimmers at the 2011 East Invicta Championships.  Grace Walker continued her winning run becoming East Invicta Champion in the 100m Back, 200m Free and the 50m back in a new East Invicta Record knocking 0.72 off the old record. Both the 100m Back and 50m Back were also SE Region qualifying times. This made her Champion in nine events and earned her the 12yr old overall Bagcat title and a place on the Olympic training day.

Josh Hill narrowly missed the Championship record in the 15/over 50m breaststroke heats but snatched victory in the final to also gain a SE region time and a place on the Olympic training day. Ben Walker made the top six in the 15/o 200m Breast (3rd), 200m Back (4th) 50m Breast (6th) all Kent times and PBS.  In the 13/14 age group, a very strong age group this year, James Hulbert made three finals achieving 4th in 50m Breast and 100m IM and 5th 100m Free and Kent times as well.

Max Hulbert had a successful championship gaining several Kent times in 11/12 section where he was one of the younger swimmers and was 3rd in the 11yr Bagcats losing out on 2nd place by a few points on the final day.  Saul Owen also did well with a couple of Kent times and making the final of the 11/12 50m Breaststroke where he was one of the younger swimmers. Their performances bode well for next year in this age group.

The 15/16 Boys team (James Hulbert, Ben Walker, Simon Farrow, Barney Webborn) snatched 3rd place from Margate in the 4x50m Free Relay having narrowly lost 3rd place in the Medley event. The 13/14 Girls Relay team of Jess Saunders, F Coughlan, L Nash, V McDowell-Austin and Ellie Burch came 6th in both the free and medley relays whilst the 9/10 Girls medley relay ( Amanda Cuffley, Ellice Staerck, Lily Bartlett, Jeminah Greenwood) made the final but unfortunately got disqualified.

All in all it was a very successful championship for Hythe Aqua with 10 titles held by club swimmers and an East Invicta Championship record. What was most pleasing was the number of PB’s and Kent times achieved and the amount of Hythe swimmers who
